OriginStories ("we," "us") provides an AI-assisted interview service that helps a person (the "subject") tell their life story through recorded-in-text conversations, and turns those conversations into a drafted, printable book. The service is operated from www.originstories.ai.
A book purchase is a one-time payment that includes unlimited interview sessions for one subject, a set number of contributor interviews (shown at checkout), drafting, family review, and a print-ready edition. Additional contributor interviews may be purchased as add-ons.
Gift purchases are delivered as a redemption code. Codes are single-use and don't expire. Until a code is redeemed, the purchaser may request a refund; after redemption, refunds are handled case by case as described below.
Accounts are created automatically at purchase or redemption and use passwordless email sign-in. You're responsible for access to your email address; anyone with access to your email can sign in as you.
Interviews are conducted by an AI interviewer over a live voice connection. Voice audio is transcribed in the moment and is never written to durable storage — transcripts are the only record kept. Chapter drafts are generated by AI from those transcripts and are clearly working drafts: your family reviews and approves every page before anything is considered final.
AI-generated text can contain errors. The review step exists precisely so your family — not the AI — has the last word on what the book says.
The stories, transcripts, and finished book belong to your family. We claim no ownership of them. You grant us only the limited license needed to operate the service: storing transcripts, processing them with our AI providers (under agreements that prohibit training on your content), and producing your book.
You may request export or permanent deletion of a book and its transcripts at any time via support; deletion is irreversible.
Don't use the service to harass anyone, to record a person without their knowledge and consent, to infringe others' rights, or to attempt to breach or overload our systems. Contributor invitations may only be sent to people who have a genuine connection to the subject.
Unredeemed gifts: full refund on request. Redeemed or self-purchased books: if the service hasn't worked as promised, contact support within 30 days of purchase and we'll make it right — up to and including a full refund. Refunds are returned to the original payment method via Stripe.
The service is provided "as is." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties and our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
We may update these terms as the service evolves. Material changes will be announced by email or on this page with an updated date. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
