These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and Network Problems, LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company doing business as OriginStories ("we," "us"). They govern the website at www.originstories.ai and the OriginStories service. By purchasing, redeeming a gift, creating an account, taking part in an interview, or otherwise using the service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.
You must be at least 18 years old to purchase or hold an account. Contributor interviews are for adults; if you invite a contributor you confirm they are an adult who has agreed to take part.
OriginStories provides an AI-assisted interview service that helps a person (the "storyteller") tell their life story through live spoken conversations, invites family and friends to add their memories, organizes the transcripts into a drafted book, gives the family a chance to review and correct it, and prints and ships a paperback copy.
The interviewer is an artificial-intelligence system, not a person. Voice audio is transcribed in the moment and never stored; transcripts are the only record kept. Chapter drafts are generated by AI from those transcripts and are working drafts until your family approves them. AI-generated text can contain mistakes, and the review step exists so that your family — not the AI — has the last word on what the book says.
A book purchase is a one-time payment (currently $149, shown at checkout) that includes unlimited interview sittings for one storyteller, the number of contributor interviews shown at checkout, drafting, family review, a print-ready edition, and one printed paperback copy shipped by standard mail to an address in a country our print partner serves. Additional contributor interviews and additional printed copies are available for the prices shown on the site or at the time of ordering.
Prices are in U.S. dollars. Applicable sales tax, if any, is calculated at checkout. Payments are processed by Stripe under its own terms. We may change prices for future purchases at any time; a change never affects a purchase already made.
A gift purchase is delivered to the recipient as a redemption code by email, immediately or on the date you choose. Codes are single-use and do not expire. The recipient creates their own account when they redeem the code and becomes the owner of the book; you, as the purchaser, receive access to read and review it. Until a code is redeemed, you may request a full refund.
Accounts are created at purchase or redemption and are accessed by email sign-in link or a password you set. You are responsible for keeping your email account and password secure and for everything done under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.
The stories, transcripts, photos, contributor interviews, and the finished book belong to you and your family. We claim no ownership of them. You grant us only the limited, non-exclusive license needed to operate the service: to store your content, process it with our service providers (under agreements that prohibit training AI models on it), generate drafts, and print your book. That license ends when the content is deleted, except for copies that must be kept for legal or accounting reasons.
You are responsible for the content you provide and confirm that you have the right to provide it, including permission from the people you photograph and from the storyteller and contributors to take part. You may request export or permanent deletion of a book and its transcripts at any time through support; deletion is irreversible.
The OriginStories name, site, software, book design, and templates are ours and protected by intellectual-property law. Nothing in these terms gives you rights in them beyond using the service.
Do not use the service to record or interview a person without their knowledge and consent, to harass or defame anyone, to infringe others' rights, to submit content that is unlawful, or to interfere with, probe, or overload our systems. Contributor invitations may only be sent to people with a genuine connection to the storyteller. We may suspend or end access for misuse, with a refund at our discretion.
Printed books are produced and shipped by our print partner (currently Lulu Press) to the address you provide. Standard mail delivery typically takes two to three weeks after the print edition is created; faster options are offered at cost. You are responsible for entering a complete and correct address; we cannot recover or refund copies lost because of an incorrect address. If a copy arrives damaged or misprinted, contact us within 30 days of delivery and we will replace it at no charge.
Books are printed on demand from the edition your family approved. Once a copy is in production it cannot be cancelled or changed.
Unredeemed gifts: full refund on request, any time before the code is redeemed.
Redeemed or self-purchased books: if the service has not worked as promised, contact us within 30 days of purchase and we will make it right, up to and including a full refund. After 30 days, refunds are at our discretion. Additional printed copies are refundable only if defective, as described in section 8. Refunds are returned to the original payment method through Stripe.
The service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the AI interviewer will ask any particular question, that drafts will be free of errors before your review, or that the service will be uninterrupted. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under law that cannot be waived.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither we nor our members, employees, or service providers are liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, or goodwill, arising from the service, even if advised of the possibility. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
You agree to defend and hold us harmless from claims and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from content you provide, your breach of these terms, or your violation of anyone's rights.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey and applicable U.S. federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey, and you consent to their jurisdiction. Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us and give us 30 days to try to resolve the matter.
We may change the service, and we may update these terms as it evolves. Material changes will be announced by email to account holders or posted here with a new effective date. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms. If you do not agree, stop using the service and contact us about a refund of any unused purchase.
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the service. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our not enforcing a term is not a waiver. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger or sale of the business.
